I have no direct experience with China, yet this is EXACTLY the view I would expect the Chinese to have on passports- a competitive advantage, a marker of social distinction, and a hedge/insurance against mistreatment from their government. Glad you shared your thoughts on this, I found it very interesting
Yes, I agree that passport arbitrage - followed closely by collecting residency visas like beanie babies - will be the next wave of privilege-signaling among the globally mobile elite.
@Yunsu Tang I think the best ones to get are the fastest-cheapest-easiest to gather documentation with the caveat that a 2nd or 3rd passport or residency will always come with legal and tax/accounting responsibilities. It's always wise to get sound advice (not from Facebook or expat forums) and proceed carefully!

Haha it seems like I sound VERY Chinese throughout the whole article... I tried to talk about it objectively...
I'm not sure it's "about" power, more that it "shows how power and privilege" exists. A lot of the passport bros feel ignored in their home countries.
Do you know anyone like that and what’re their stories?

National identities as the new "It" accessory?
Oui oui.

Hong Kong passport is great for dual citizenship! I'm in the process of trying to get US + UK visas actually.
